What is Memory Management Stop Code Error?
As the name sounds, Memory Management is a Windows process that manages every bit of memory on your computer. From anything you create to everything you delete, it keeps the record for everything. Even the memory currently used by your RAM is managed by Memory Management. And if anything goes wrong with that, expect a BSOD.
Imagine your memory being jumbled up or losing track of anything you did, That’s exactly how messed up it is. But what exactly causes the Memory Management error.
Long story short, the Memory Management error is a BSOD. And a BSOD is caused by 5 basic reasons.
- Corrupted Windows Files
- Malfunctioning Drivers
- Virus Infection
- Faulty Memory

How to Fix Memory Management Error?
The Memory Management error covers a wide range of issue, so landing a particular solution won’t help at all. To solve this problem, you will have to go through all of them. But worry not as it is not a tedious process and you will be done in a few minutes.
Note- Make sure that there are no external devices connected to your PC, except your Keyboard and Mouse. You will also need a strong internet connection.
1. Check Hardware
Let us start with the basics. Since it is a Memory issue, start by physically checking your memory devices. These include your RAM and your HDD or SSDs. Make sure that they are connected properly and Windows is scanning all of them. You can also re-install them just to be on the safe side.
In case you own a laptop, leave this process for the end.
2. Update Driver
As I mentioned before, this error is also caused due to malfunctioning Windows/Video Drivers. So our best bet is to update both of them. This will automatically fix any corrupt or malfunctioning file or driver.
To update your Windows,
- Go to search menu by pressing the Windows key typing “Windows Update” in the search menu. You can also access it from Setting-> Change PC Setting-> Update and Recovery in Windows 8.1.
- Click on Check for Updates, to check for available updates.
- Now click on Install to download Updates.
- Once the download is complete, restart your PC to install updates.
The Windows update is now complete. So the only cause remaining is to update your Video card drivers. Usually, these files are updated as you update your Windows but, it is better to cross-check. To update your Drivers,
- Open Start and type in “Device Manager” in the search menu. You can also access the device manager through Control panel.
- Now, go to Display adapters and double click on it to extend.
- Righ-click on your Graphics Card driver and click on Update. You can also uninstall and reinstall your Video drivers.
- Once, you are done with the process, restart your computer.
3. Use Windows Repair Tool
The error codes in BSOD are expected in a given scenario. In simple terms, these errors are already anticipated by Microsoft. So in order to tackle this scenario, Windows offer several in-built tools.
In case of any memory or Windows files related issue, you can always rely on Check Disk and System File Checker.
The Check Disk or chkdsk /f is a tool designed to find any file system error or bad sector on your hard drive. This tool will find and locate this problem. It not only narrows down your search but also helps you prevent any upcoming errors.
To use this tool,
- First, close all tabs and restart your PC.
- Then Start by opening, Command Prompt as admin by pressing Windows+X.
- Now type in ” chkdsk /f ” and press Enter to start the scan.
- Let the PC complete its scan and then proceed with the next one.
System File Checker
The System File Checker (sfc/scannow) is another handy tool in Widows Arsenal. As the name suggests, this tool is designed to scan every protected system file and find the corrupted ones. After locating such system files the SFC tool automatically replaces it with an original copy of that file located in system 32.
- To use sfc/scannow, simply type ” sfc/scannow “ in cmd and press enter.
4. Memory Diagnostics Tool
In order to check your RAM, Windows offers a pre-installed tool called Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool. This tool basically scans your RAM and notifies you in case any error is spotted. To access the Memory diagnostics tool, first-
- Go to Control Panel and search Memory.
- Then click on Administrative tool to begin the diagnostic.
- This tool requires you to restart your PC. So, you can now either restart the computer and check the problem or schedule it for later.
- In case you get any error you can expect a RAM issue.
Run a full system scan
BSOD are caused due to many reasons, Infected Windows files are one of them. And there is a good chance that running a full system scan will help us solve it.
For that, you can use Windows Defender. Here is how-
- Open Start and search for Windows defender.
- It is recommended to update your Windows Defender before scanning your PC. So, go to the Update and click on Update Definition.
- Once, your defender is up to date. Go back to Scan and select Full under scan options. Then, click on Scan now to scan your PC.
- The scanning process takes a good amount of time. So, let your PC do its job and relax. After the scan is complete, take all the necessary actions required.
