If you want to purchase and read e-books on your iOS device, then iBooks is the app for you. It’s an extremely popular and elegant app that is beloved by a lot of avid readers. You can even sync up your library with other iOS devices with the help of iCloud, but what if you want iBooks for PC? if you just recently switched to Windows and if you are an avid reader, then you have come to the right place.
In this article, we are going to take a look at how you can get iBooks for a Windows PC. We are going to take a look at how it’s possible (since Apple isn’t really a fan of other platforms) and we will also list out a few alternative apps that you can use. Let’s get started.
Can You Get iBooks on Windows PC?
Apple has faced a lot of criticism for not including cross-platform iBooks support, but they are still adamant about their decision. In my opinion, you should be able to view a book that you purchased on any of your devices. You can view your e-books on Windows, but it’s a little tricky since Apple hasn’t released a version of iBooks that is compatible with Windows. You can use iTunes to transfer the books (more on that in the next section), but that has its own set of problems.
Another method you can use is screen mirroring. Everything that appears on your iOS device will be mirrored to your PC and you will have all the benefits of reading an ebook on a bigger screen. You can also use alternative apps that are supported by Windows if you haven’t purchased anything from iBooks.
I’m sure that you can find articles on the internet that will suggest that you use an emulator like VMWare. I think it’s too much work for a single app and it will also tank your PC’s performance. Using a simulator like iPadian is another solution that I’ve seen online. iPadian only simulates the look and feel of iOS and you can’t run native iOS apps on it. It also has a bad reputation since reports indicate that the free version installs adware on your PC.
How To Get iBooks for PC?
This section will elaborate on the solutions discussed in the previous section. The methods are not ranked at all. Each method has it’s own pros and cons and I recommend that you read them thoroughly.
1. Transferring iBooks Through iTunes
Note that this method works only on free ebooks. If you want to read them on PC, then iTunes is the way to go. iTunes on Windows doesn’t work all that well, but it should be able to do this small task. Just follow these simple steps.
- Connect your iOS device to your PC via lightning cable.
- Make sure that your device trusts your computer. After they, the devices will sync up automatically.
- Click on Books on the left.
- Check the Sync Books option. Then click Sync.
- After the sync, right-click on an ebook and select Show in Windows Explorer.
- You can use a .epub to .pdf converter to read your books.
If you have access to a Mac, then you can simply download the e-book on it and transfer it to a PC through a USB drive. However, as I mentioned earlier, this will only work for free ebooks since DRM protected books can only be accessed through iBooks.
2. Screen Mirroring
In my opinion, this is the best method to read books from iBooks on PC. ApoweMirror will basically turn your PC monitor into a second screen.
- Download and install ApowerMirror on your iOS device by clicking on this link.
- Download and install ApowerMirror on your PC from this link.
- Connect both devices to the same WiFi network.
- Open up the Control center on your iOS device and then tap on Screen Mirroring.
- Select Apowersoft(your PC name) to mirror your screen to your PC.
- Open up iBooks on your iPhone.
- Click on Fullscreen mode on your PC and put your phone in landscape mode.
3. Alternative Apps To Get iBooks on Windows 10
If you didn’t purchase anything on iBooks, then using an alternative app is the best thing to do. Windows offers a lot of great apps and I’ve listed out a couple of them for you.
1. Kindle for PC
Amazon Kindle has a huge library of books you can choose from. To download books, all you have to do is visit the Amazon Kindle Bookstore on a browser and log in with your Amazon account. The purchased e-books can be read on your PC. You can download the app for free from Amazon.
Freda offers a lot of free ebooks and it’s a very capable reader too. You can sync your library with multiple devices using DropBox and it will also let you publish your own work. It integrates nicely with Project Gutenberg, which why these books are available for free. You can download and install Freda by clicking on this link.
