How to Connect PS4 Controller To PC

By now you know how amazing it is to have DualShock 4 PS4 controller on PC and now I will be guiding you how you can do it-connecting DualShock 4 PS4 controller on PC via Bluetooth or micro-USB cable to have an experience just like PS4.

First I’ll talk you through the basic hardware & software which is required, then 3 methods to do that and also how you can use it cause just setting up won’t be enough.

Requirements:

Hardware:

  1. Dualshock 4 Controller
  2. Micro-USB Cable
  3. Bluetooth adapter

Software:

Method 1: Connect via USB Cable

Follow these steps to connect PS4 Controller on PC with a USB cable.

Step 1:

You got your Ps4 Controller and all the necessary hardware and software that is mentioned above so, first what is this DS4WINDOWS and what exactly DS4WINDOWS Software does? It acts as a middle between your Windows PC and your ps4controller and lets your PC/laptop assume that its an X box controller(which is owned by the same company that owns windows) and makes it so simple for you to connect your Ps4 controller.

Step 2:

By now you know what is DS$WINDOWS and what it does? so all you have to do for now is that Right-click on the DS4WINDOWS>Extract file to your preferred location and now you can either install the software or if you already it, you can update the software and then launch DS4Windows.

After launching ds4windows it will ask you where you would like to keep your properties and your profile(we strongly suggest you use defaults which is Appdata)

Step 3:

launch DS4Windows and you will be seeing the tab controller on your screen in that tab you will see that you have plugged in your DualShock4 controller and if not that close DS4Windows and reconnect your controller and open settings tab to configure few setting and make sure that you have checked the Hide DS4 Controller Box & Xinput Ports by doing this DS4Windows will not conflict with default game’s controls.

Step 4:

Now that you have installed DS4Windows it will show up as a shortcut icon on the desktop and if you find any issue regarding layouts or set-up, I am going to tell you how to use DS4Windows.

How to use PS4 Controller:

So as we know DS4Windows tricks your pc as your DualShock 4 were an Xbox controller and it offers a  one size fits all great button setup and cause now your PS4 controller should be acting like an Xbox controller and work with any game which supports x-input which also mean that you don’t have to worry about Cross/Triangle/Circle/Square by default in most games.

If you want to change buttons or gameplay setting you can do that by going to the profile tab in the DS4Windows but I do not recommend doing that cause it will make things a bit confusing for you during gameplay.

This indeed looks complicated, but it’s not, and Let’s say you want to change your controls so to do that you have to find R1/L1 & R2/L2  either in the scroll wheel in the Controls section or the virtual controller. You want to change R2 with R1 and L2 with L1, so start by clicking L1.

this will opens another complicated looking page but its easy. Just right-click the button you want L1 to act as—in this case, L2. that’s it, your left bumper will now act as your left trigger and continue this process with the other bumpers and triggers. You can save this s as an individual profile and swap between profiles in the DS4Windows Controller tab.

Method 2: via Bluetooth

You can connect your DualShock 4 controller wirelessly via Bluetooth and you don’t even have to pair it every time so all you have to do is simply press and hold the small button share and the central circular button until the DualShock’s backlight start flashing, then press on the end of the adapter until it begins flashing. Once both starts flashing, they will automatically connect in a few seconds.

Method 3: Via Steam

And here another very simple method to connect your DualShock 4 controller but only if you play games on steam which is a popular launcher and platform for games and if use steam for gaming then you don’t need much to do, you just have to plug your DualShock 4 controller> launch steam on your PC/Laptop> go to setting then controller setting for configuration but this doesn’t work well for many users so if you want to play other than the games on steam then you can go through above methods.

Conclusion:

This was the complete guide on how you can connect your DualShock 4 controller to your PC/Laptop to have PlayStation like experience and just a little recap: download DS4Windows>Install it>connect your DualShock 4 Controller via Cable>Configure it>you are good to go.
