NEC to exit EMEA

Reports suggest vendor is looking to shut down its French production line this summer

NEC is reportedly looking to shed its European corporate PC division just two years after exiting the consumer market, due to increasing competition from US and Taiwanese rivals such as HP, Dell and Acer.

According to Reuters, the firm is preparing to cease production of corporate PCs at its European production line in France as early as this June.

According to its latest financials, the European arm currently accounts for around 13 per cent of the vendor's total shipments.

Two years ago the firm offloaded its consumer arm Packard Bell after margins were eroded by strong competition in the European retail market.
