Educational notebook to offer safe learning environment for British children

The JumPC, a modified version of the Intel Classmate, is now available in the United Kingdom.

The laptop, which has been specifically developed for children between the ages of six and ten, launched in the UK last week and has been designed to allow children to use a PC within a protected internet framework.

The system combines Windows XP with the Magic Desktop software designed by EasyBits, which has been voted as the best system for children by the EU’s ‘safer internet program’.

Magic Desktop prevents access to inappropriate websites, safeguards personal information and allows parents to have full control over how and when their child uses the laptop. It also includes a number of features designed specifically for children including video and text editing software, safe and easy email and a variety of educational programmes.

Additionally the JumPC features a waterproof keyboard, shock resistant casing, a built-in webcam and a series of accessories such as Disney designed casings and ‘magic keys’ – USB flash drives loaded with games and activities.

The JumPC is already available in Italy and Germany where 30,000 have been sold.

Coby Maree, managing director of Actronix, which has exclusive distribution right in the UK said: “We have incorporated the JumPC in to our portfolio because of the revolutionary nature of this amazing product. It is the first children’s laptop which is truly tapered to their needs”.
