Animator drops AMD for chip rival

Movie studio Dreamworks has ended its three-year partnership with chipmaker AMD, choosing Intel as its new supplier.

The deal will see the studio replace its computing hardware infrastructure, including 1,500 server systems and 1,000 workstations that currently use AMD processors.

This shift is apparently based on the capabilities of two forthcoming Intel chips, and will aid Dreamworks in its planned move to 3D animation for its upcoming film Monsters vs Aliens.

Although financial details of the deal have not been disclosed, it is clear that this deal represents a major coup for Intel as AMD has always placed great value on its high profile customers.
