Intel lands $25m fine

Chip giant penalised by South Korean Trade Commission

Intel has been ordered to pay a $25 million (26 billion Won) fine in South Korea after being found guilty of a breach of fair trade laws.

Apparently, the firm offered ‘unfair subsidies’ to Samsung and Trigem Computer if they exclusively bought Intel chips, effectively cutting off AMD.

Unsurprisingly, the firm ‘completely disagreed’ with the charge, and is considering appealing the verdict.

The chip maker is also feeling the legal heat in Europe where it was recently raided by Competition Commission officials, and in the US where New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo is investigating similar exclusivity agreements and price practises
