Monitor sales slump in EMEA

Sales of desktop monitors slow by 10 per cent in the Middle East and Asia
Data firm Meko is claiming that year-on-year sales of desktop monitors have slumped by 10 per cent in the Middle East and Africa territories (EMEA).
Sales totalled 15.5 million units. The change follows three successive quarters of year-on-year growth, and comes as a surprise to most suppliers.
Samsung and LG were the strongest performing vendors, and despite Samsung’s limited growth LG actually experienced a decline in sales.
"There's evidence that the tightening of consumers' spending belts due to the general
economic situation has hit sales in this part of the market", Meko’s research director Pete Gamby stated.
"This, combined with the continued trend towards notebook PCs and away from purchases of desktops, meant that several major suppliers reported a drop in sales compared to Q3 2007.”
