Asus to release XP sub-notebook soon

Microsoft-based Eee PC set to launch before end of Q1 2008

Asus has confirmed that the widely anticipated XP version of its popular Eee PC will be released by the end of the Q1 2008.

The Taiwanese vendor said that it would be releasing the Windows XP model in 4GB and 8GB varieties, explaining that the current 2GB would be unable to run the operating system.

Speaking about the move, president of Asus' American channel, Jackie Hsu said: "The Eee PC has been a tremendous success since our initial launch in November last year, and our channel customers tell us they want to offer even more options to their end consumers.

"With the new Windows XP based offerings, we expect to engage with a broader customer base whose existing software and applications require a Windows based device."
