Hard disk’s are out in Dell’s latest laptop range
PC manufacturer Dell has revealed that it is dropping hard disks from a number of its upcoming lightweight laptops, having instead chosen to include solid-state SSD memory.
ZDNet reports that with SSD capacities now approaching the 32GB mark, solid-state memory is now becoming a real option for users who aren’t burdened with extensive MP3 or MPEG4 collections.
Solid-state memory offers several advantages over traditional hard drives – no moving parts, faster access and lower battery consumption.
Its usage also boosts operations and loading times.
The Latitude D420 comes with a SATA hard drive as standard, but can be upgraded to 32GB solid-state drive for $450. The D620 comes with the drive as a $300 option.
No details about European availability are yet known.
