Intel launches new laptop concept

The chip giant has announced plans for a new style of laptop aimed at women.

Intel has introduced a new style of portable PC concept aimed at women called the Metro Notebook. The sub-0.7-inch thick, 1kg, Core 2 Duo-based device will be designed to be carried over the shoulder and will have a secondary display for fast info updates.

The secondary small colour screen is a non-volatile e-ink display that continually displays data such as email, calendar entries or eBooks even when the power is cut. The screen is mounted on the leather wrap-around cover which connects to the laptop through a dock connector and is also capable of hosting USB traffic.

The Metro is mainly designed for complete wireless communications, with reconfigurable antennae which is able to switch between the Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and WiMAX links.

Intel also said the machine will probably come complete with an inductive connection-less charging pad, allowing the batteries of phones and PDAs to be recharged just by placing them on the notebook.
